Auric Shards

Auric Shards (Yellow)

Red Yellow Blue
When this enters the arena, up to 1 target attack with fragment gets +1power. If this has a holo counter, instead the attack gets +3power.

Ward 1

Rulings

From the Omens of the Third Age release notes
  • Auric Shards’ first ability triggers when it enters the arena (e.g. resolves on the stack, when it is put into the arena from another card’s effect, returns to the arena, etc.). This is a targeted effect: you must target up to one attack with the fragment ability in the arena or the stack. When the triggered effect resolves, that targeted attack will get +1power. However, if the Auric Shards has a holo counter on it at the time the triggered effect resolves and that same Auric Shards was not made private/enters into a non-arena zone, instead the attack gets +4/3/2power.
  • You can choose not to target any attacks with fragment. If you do not, Auric Shards’ triggered effect is not added to the stack.
  • If the targeted attack with fragment no longer has its fragment ability when it resolves (e.g. it loses the ability), that attack is no longer a valid target and will not get the power increase.
  • If Auric Shards leaves the arena, any +power effects from resolving its triggered effect that have already been applied to the attack will continue to apply. For example if Auric Shards was banished by Zyggy’s ability and returns with a holo counter, the new effect can be applied to that same attack as the previous effect.

Keyword notes

Ward X - If your hero would be dealt damage, prevent X of that damage and destroy this.
  • Ward is a static ability that generates a fixed-prevention effect.
  • The prevention effect is not optional. It applies whenever damage would be dealt to your hero.
  • If another prevention effect reduces a damage event to 0, the replacement condition is no longer met (damage would not be dealt), so Ward would not apply.
  • The prevention amount applies to a single damage event. The leftover prevention amount does not apply to any future damage that would be dealt to your hero.
  • If the damage prevention can not be applied due to an effect, the object with Ward on it is still destroyed as part of the replacement effect application.
