Keyword notes

Usurp - As an additional cost to play this, destroy a Runechant if able. If you do, this gets +2{p}.
  • Usurp is a static ability keyword.
  • Usurp adds an additional cost to cards. You must destroy a card named Runechant, or a card that counts as a Runechant if able. If you destroy a Runechant in this way, the card gets +2power. Any Runechant that is public and in the arena can be destroyed as part of paying this cost, regardless of controller.
  • A Runechant token that is destroyed to pay a usurp cost will not trigger when the card is played: it no longer exists by the time its “when you play an attack action card” trigger would occur.
  • A Runechant that is destroyed to pay a usurp cost is considered to have been usurped when that card is played and put on the stack. This can trigger effects that look for when a card “usurps this”.
  • If there are no Runechants, you can still play the card with the usurp additional cost but you won’t get any additional effects as the usurp cost was not paid.
