Decay

Rulings

From the Usurp the Shadow Throne release notes
  • Restless Templar has a triggered-static that is functional while it is a permanent in the arena. If a zombie you control with decay dies while it is on the stack, it will not trigger.
  • Restless Templar’s triggered ability can trigger during any player’s turn, during any phase.
  • If a zombie you control without decay (e.g. a Corrupted Corpse) dies, Restless Templar will not trigger.
  • When Restless Templar dies, if it has decay, its controller will create a Gate to i’Arathael token (it is a zombie you control with decay).
  • If a zombie you control is reduced to 0life from a decay trigger in your end phase, then it is considered to have died, and meet Restless Templar’s trigger condition.

Keyword notes

Decay - At the beginning of your end phase, put a -1{h} counter on this.
  • Decay is a static ability keyword.
  • A card with decay triggers during its controller’s beginning of their end phase. When this trigger resolves, you will put a -1life counter on the card with decay. This can cause permanents that are living objects to die or otherwise be cleared and trigger other effects.
  • Counters that are put on a permanent in this way will persist until the permanent leaves the arena.
  • Decay triggers and resolves before allies heal at the end of the turn. For example, if a 3 life ally with decay has 2 damage marked on it, then that ally will die when the decay trigger resolves. Effects that trigger on-death will trigger from this.
