Rulings

From the Usurp the Shadow Throne release notes
  • Blasmophet, the Insatiable Hunger produces a continuous effect that allows you to play an action card with blood debt from your banished zone once on each player’s turn. If you have another way to play a card that meets this criteria from your banished zone, you must declare which method you are using to play it.
  • Blasmophet, the Insatiable Hunger will trigger at the beginning of each player’s end phase. When this trigger resolves, it generates an optional effect: you may banish a card from your hand. Regardless of whether you choose to banish a card from your hand, it will check if you have banished a card with blood debt during this turn. If you have not, then Blasmophet, Insatiable Hunger will be destroyed.
  • If you banish a card with blood debt during your hand as part of the optional effect while resolving Blasmophet, the Insatiable Hunger’s end phase trigger, then you will not destroy it.

Keyword notes

Unique - You can only control 1 card with this name or moniker.
  • Unique is a static ability keyword. It is not related to the deckbuilding concept of uniqueness.
  • Uniqueness is determined by a card’s moniker. For example; Blasmophet, the Insatiable Hunger token and Blasmophet, Levia Consumed (the demi-hero) are considered to have the same moniker (Blasmophet). Cards that do not have a personal name do not have a moniker, and do not interact with Unique (e.g. Shadow of Blasmophet).
  • If you control more than one card with unique and a given moniker, you will remove cards one by one until you either control only one card with unique per moniker, or until no card with that moniker and the unique keyword remains. For example, if you control a Blasmophet, the Insatiable Hunger token and then create an additional Blasmophet, the Insatiable Hunger token, you will clear one of the tokens as a game state action.
  • If a card with a moniker and the unique ability shares that moniker with a card without unique, then the game state process of clean up above occurs. For example, Blasmophet, the Insatiable Hunger token and Blasmophet, Levia Consumed have the same moniker, and you will clear cards by the process above. If cards cleared in this way have the life property, then they have died for the purposes of game effects, but are not considered destroyed.
  • If you would come under control of two cards with the same moniker and the unique ability while under an effect that causes cards you own lose their name property (e.g. Amnesia), none of these would be cleared as part of game state action because they don’t have a name property that is required to determine uniqueness. However, if they regain their name properties later, then one of them would be cleared as a game state action.
